Performance Curves

Fully Open Impeller — two times the wear area
Pinnacle specifies a fully open impeller rather than an enclosed one for three reasons: greater wear area for longer life, renewable performance for reduced repair cost, and minimum hydraulic loads for maximum mechanical reliability. On a 10″ impeller the open design gives roughly 158 in² of total wear area against about 84 in² for an enclosed type — and the wear is uniform across it rather than concentrated at the nose ring. Back pump-out vanes reduce positive stuffing-box and seal-chamber pressure, and the impeller O-ring protects the threaded area against corrosion.
Shaft & bearings sized past the ANSI frame limit
The 8896 shaft assembly is engineered to withstand high-load applications, including conditions that exceed ANSI power-frame limitations. Duplex angular contact bearings guarantee zero end play, and shaft overhang is optimised against diameter to hold deflection below 0.002 in at the seal faces — the single biggest determinant of mechanical seal life. Bearings are sized and configured for L10 (B10) life exceeding two years within the design operating range.
Seal chambers designed for the seal, not the standard
Big-bore, taper-bore and standard-bore seal chambers are all available, designed specifically for mechanical seals. The larger-diameter chambers accommodate new-generation seal designs and improve lubrication and cooling of the seal faces — which is where seal life is actually won.
Casing with bonus corrosive allowance
Class 150 pumps are built with Class 300 wall thickness. That bonus thickness is corrosion allowance: longer life under corrosive and erosive conditions, and superior resistance to pipe loads. Available with Class 150 or Class 300 flanges.
Lubrication flexibility and contamination control
A large oil sump, a one-inch oil sight glass and a removable frame foot mean pumps run cooler, last longer, and can be maintained at proper oil level without a strip-down. Brass labyrinth oil seals prevent lubricant contamination — the primary cause of premature bearing failure — and the rigid frame design reduces the effect of pipe loads on pump and motor shaft alignment.

Performance Curves

Two frames, nineteen sizes
The 8831 covers Group 1 duty in five sizes from 1.5 x 1-62 to 3 x 2-62. The 8832 covers Group 2 in fourteen sizes up to 6 x 4-13A. Both share the same bearing-frame architecture, so the service procedure a technician learns on one carries over to the other.
Reverse vane impeller
Back-swept vanes on the impeller shroud balance axial thrust hydraulically and sweep solids away from the seal chamber, which keeps the seal faces clean and reduces the axial load the thrust bearing has to carry.
External impeller adjustment
Front clearance is reset from outside the pump with the casing closed. Recovering lost efficiency as the impeller wears takes minutes with a feeler gauge instead of a teardown.
Inpro bearing isolators
Non-contacting labyrinth isolators replace lip seals at both ends of the bearing frame. Nothing rubs, so nothing wears out; moisture and airborne contaminant stay out of the oil, which is the failure mode behind most premature bearing deaths.
Seal chamber choice
Standard, large-bore and modified seal chambers are all available on the same casing. The large-bore option gives a single mechanical seal room to circulate and flush itself, which matters on slurries and on fluids close to their vapour pressure.
Durco Mark III interchangeability
Groups 1 and 2 are 100% interchangeable with Durco Mark III®. An existing baseplate, coupling, guard and piping stay where they are — the changeout is a rotating-element swap, not a project.

Features
- Reliable non-stalling, non-lubricated air valve assembly
- Common center body for the 1" & 2" pumps
- Easy access to the air motor for service when required
- Fewer moving parts
- Epoxy-coated center body
- NPT or BSP threaded ports
Bolt-together construction
The Blue Dog is assembled rather than clamped: thicker cast and moulded parts, bolted together, with smooth internal passage ways that do not trap product. Fewer moving parts than a comparable pump, and a common centre body across the 1″ and 2″ sizes, so the spares list stays short.
Non-lubricated, non-stalling air valve
The air motor requires no lubricator in the supply line — no oil mist to contaminate the workplace or the product, and no lubricator to forget to fill. The valve assembly is designed not to stall at changeover, and it is accessible for service without breaking into the wetted path.
Runs dry, indefinitely, without damage
There is no mechanical seal and no close running clearance to burn. The pump simply cycles when the liquid runs out, which is what makes it the right machine for drum and tote transfer, sump evacuation, chemical evacuation, and any duty that ends with an empty container.
Self-priming, and it will pump what a centrifugal will not
Suction lift from dry is inherent to the displacement principle. Thick products, thin products and shear-sensitive products all move at low shear — which is why the range covers everything from ceramic glaze supply to dewatering to repackaging fluids into smaller receptacles.
Place it anywhere there is air
No electric motor means no electrical area classification, no starter, no VFD and no conduit. Turning the air supply down turns the pump down; closing the discharge stalls it harmlessly rather than building pressure. Epoxy-coated centre body, NPT or BSP threaded ports.

Self-Priming Pumps
3 seriesPinnacle’s self-priming pumps can be easily operated and serviced. Maintenance can be completed quickly and easily because they are designed to run high and dry above the water level. We manufacture several lines of these versatile self-priming pumps, specially designed for dirty water, limited solids, and clear liquids applications. Self-priming pumps are available as basic units or as complete packages.

PFSPP Series
The self-priming centrifugal SPP Series is the standard for industrial and sewage applications. The heavy-duty construction and easy-to-service design have been well accepted in the industry. The combination of different sized pumps, impeller trims and speed variations ensures the correct capacity pump will be matched to the exact requirements of your system, whether a small sub-division or a large waste collection system. These pumps feature a large volute design that allows automatic repriming.

Removable Rotating Assembly
Removal of the rotating assembly allows easy inspection of pump shaft or bearings without disturbing pump casing or piping. On most models, simply remove four bolts from the back of the pump and the rotating assembly slides out.
Abrasion-Resistant Mechanical Seal
Double-floating, self-aligning oil-lubricated mechanical cartridge seal with stationary and rotating faces of silicon carbide, specifically designed for abrasive industrial wastewater service.
Solids-Handling Impeller
Two-vane, semi-open, solids-handling impeller handles up to 3" (76 mm) diameter solids, depending on pump model. Pump-out vanes on the impeller shroud reduce foreign material buildup behind the impeller and reduce pressure on the seal and bearings for extended pump life.
Removable Cover Plate
Removable cover plate provides quick and easy access to the pump interior without disconnecting piping. Clogs can be removed and the pump returned to service in minutes. Impeller, seal, wearplate and flap valve can also be accessed through the cover plate opening.
Replaceable Wearplate
Replaceable heavy-duty wearplates fasten to the cover plate and protect the priming chamber from wear and erosion. They can easily be removed for inspection or service — no expensive castings to replace.
Drive Variations
Available as basic units for connection to the customer’s power source, or flex-coupled or V-belt driven by an electric motor. Pumps may also be powered by gasoline or diesel engines. Electric-motor-driven pumps with standby engine power are also available.

PFSPPX Series
Designed for economical, trouble-free operation, the superior solids-handling capabilities of SPPX Series pumps make them ideally suited for a variety of applications including solids-laden liquids and slurries. The large volute design allows automatic repriming in a completely open system without the need for suction or discharge check valves.

Removable Rotating Assembly
Inspection of pump shaft or bearings is easily accomplished without disturbing pump casing or piping by removing the rotating assembly. Simply remove four bolts from the back of the pump and the assembly slides out. This allows quick and easy installation of a spare rotating assembly, resulting in less downtime.
Abrasion-Resistant Mechanical Seal
Double-floating, self-aligning oil-lubricated mechanical cartridge seal with stationary and rotating faces of silicon carbide, specifically designed for abrasive industrial wastewater service.
Solids-Handling Impeller
Two-vane, semi-open, solids-handling impeller handles up to 3" (76 mm) diameter solids, depending on pump model. Pump-out vanes on the impeller shroud reduce foreign material buildup behind the impeller and reduce pressure on the seal and bearings.
External Shimless Adjustment
The external shimless cover plate allows easy adjustment of the clearance between impeller and wearplate. This eliminates the need to realign belts, couplings or other drive components, and the working height of the seal assembly and impeller back clearance are not disturbed. The unique collar and adjusting screw allow incremental adjustments with the turn of a hand; once set, the collar locks in place and maintains the clearance even if the cover plate is removed. This design doubles the life of the impeller and wearplate and keeps the pump operating at maximum efficiency.
Durable Bearing Protection
An atmospheric barrier and two lip seals protect the pump bearings, allowing quick and easy external monitoring of the bearing cavity.
Replaceable Wearplate
SPPX Series pumps feature replaceable wearplates which fasten to the cover plate and can easily be removed for inspection or service. No expensive castings to replace.
Drive Variations
Available as basic units for connection to the customer’s power source, or flex-coupled or V-belt driven by an electric motor. Pumps may also be powered by gasoline or diesel engines. Electric-motor-driven pumps with standby engine power are also available.

PFSPPUX Series
Self-priming centrifugal, limited solids-handling, high-efficiency pumps with reprime capability and advanced design and maintenance features.
Where it fits
- Duty where the liquid is dirty but not solids-laden — the SPP and SPPX pass 3″ solids; the PFSPPUX trades that capacity for hydraulic efficiency.
- Continuous-duty transfer and dewatering where energy cost over the year matters more than maximum solids passage.
- Mining and industrial service alongside the SPP and SPPX, on the cleaner end of the same system.
Shared design features
- Self-priming, with reprime capability in a completely open system — no suction or discharge check valves required.
- Designed to run high and dry above the water level, so maintenance is done standing up.
- Available as a basic unit or as a complete package with flex-coupled, V-belt, electric, gasoline or diesel drive.
Full specifications pending. Published capacity, head, size and material tables for the PFSPPUX Series are not yet on this site. Send us your duty point and an application engineer will return the PFSPPUX selection, curve and materials directly.

PFVA Series Dry Prime Pumps
The PFVA Series is a dry prime, solids-handling centrifugal pump built for duty where the suction is unreliable and an operator cannot stand over the machine. A belt-driven air compressor primes and re-primes the pump automatically from dry, and the oil-lubricated cartridge seal is designed to run dry without damage — so a snored suction or an emptied sump is a normal operating condition rather than a failure.

Performance Curves

Priming without a foot valve
A belt-driven compressor evacuates the priming chamber, so the pump lifts its own suction from dry and re-primes on its own every time the level drops away. Nothing to prime by hand, no foot valve to clog, and no operator standing over it.
Dry running is a design case, not an accident
The cartridge seal runs in its own oil bath, so a snored suction or an emptied sump does not destroy it. On a dewatering or bypass duty where the level is unpredictable, that is the difference between a pump that survives the job and one that does not.
Solids sized to the pipe
The semi-open two-vane impeller passes 1.1″ on the PFVA-4, 3.1″ on the PFVA-6 and 3.9″ on the PFVA-8 — in each case close to the full bore of the suction, so what enters the pipe leaves the pump.
Cartridge seal, not a component stack
The seal arrives set and pinned as one assembly. There is no setting dimension to measure and no chance of compressing the faces wrongly during a rebuild, which is where most field seal failures actually begin.
Materials matched to duty
Gray Iron 30 casing and flanges throughout. The PFVA-4 uses a CF8 stainless impeller on a 420 stainless shaft; the 6″ and 8″ move to ductile iron 65-42-12 impellers on 1045 shafts for the heavier solids loading.
Temperature limit
The seal is rated to a maximum pumped-liquid temperature of 160°F (71°C). These are not for explosive atmospheres or for volatile flammable liquids — the brochure carries that warning on every page, and it should be read as a hard limit.
